El pasado 30 de septiembre, en el marco de la celebración del Día Internacional de la Traducción, la Escuela de Idiomas de la Universidad de Antioquia y la agencia GO BILINGUAL unieron esfuerzos para realizar un concurso de interpretación que convocó a estudiantes y egresados comprometidos con la excelencia lingüística y la comunicación intercultural.

La Escuela de Idiomas de la Universidad de Antioquia, reconocida por su rigor académico y su compromiso con la formación integral de traductores e intérpretes, reafirmó su papel como semillero de talento bilingüe en Colombia. Metodología del concurso
Cada participante enfrentó seis pruebas: dos de interpretación simultánea, dos de interpretación consecutiva y dos de traducción a la vista. Las evaluaciones fueron realizadas por múltiples expertos, quienes calificaron aspectos como fluidez, fidelidad al mensaje, precisión terminológica, claridad, toma de notas, coherencia discursiva y manejo del estrés, entre otros.
Las puntuaciones se asignaron en escala de 1 a 5, acompañadas de observaciones cualitativas. A partir de estos datos, se calculó un promedio ponderado por estudiante para establecer el escalafón final.
Hallazgos clave y observaciones recurrentes
El análisis reveló que el ritmo, la claridad y el uso estratégico de técnicas como la paráfrasis y la generalización fueron determinantes en los mejores desempeños. La toma de notas y la fidelidad al contenido se consolidaron como habilidades críticas para la interpretación consecutiva, mientras que el manejo del estrés y la dicción marcaron diferencias significativas en simultánea.
Algunos participantes mostraron consistencia y dominio técnico, aunque enfrentaron retos en precisión terminológica. Otros evidenciaron un análisis destacado del discurso, pero dificultades en pronunciación o control del tiempo. También se identificaron casos donde la fluidez y la retención fueron afectadas por el nerviosismo, lo que subraya la importancia de entrenar no solo la técnica, sino también la resiliencia emocional.
GO BILINGUAL en el conversatorio: Creando empresa en el contexto de la Traducción – Interpretación
Como parte de la programación académica del Día Internacional de la Traducción, GO BILINGUAL fue invitada al conversatorio “Creando empresa en el contexto de la Traducción – Interpretación”, organizado por el Comité de Traducción de la Escuela de Idiomas. El evento se llevó a cabo en la plazoleta de la Escuela a las 2:00 p. m., y contó con la participación de diversas agencias y emprendimientos del sector.
Durante el espacio, representantes de GO BILINGUAL compartieron reflexiones y experiencias junto a Inter Tex, SpanishASAP, Decoding, RWS y la Agencia de Traducción UdeA, bajo la moderación de Gabriel Quiroz. La conversación giró en torno a los retos de emprender en el campo de la traducción, la importancia de la ética profesional, y las oportunidades de colaboración entre agencias, universidades y nuevos talentos.

On September 30, in celebration of International Translation Day, the School of Languages at the University of Antioquia and the agency GO BILINGUAL joined forces to host an interpretation contest featuring students and alumni committed to linguistic excellence and intercultural communication.

The School of Languages at the University of Antioquia, renowned for its academic rigor and dedication to the comprehensive training of translators and interpreters, reaffirmed its role as a breeding ground for bilingual talent in Colombia. Its involvement in initiatives like this strengthens the bridge between academia and professional practice, offering real spaces for evaluation, feedback, and growth.
GO BILINGUAL, a specialized agency in translation and interpretation with a technical, legal, governmental, educational, and community focus, contributed its expertise in international standards, evaluation methodologies, and quality criteria. Each participant completed six tests: two in simultaneous interpretation, two in consecutive interpretation, and two in sight translation. Multiple experts evaluated each performance, scoring aspects such as fluency, message fidelity, terminological accuracy, clarity, note-taking, discourse coherence, and stress management, among others.
Scores were assigned on a scale from 1 to 5, accompanied by qualitative observations. A weighted average was calculated per participant to determine the final ranking.

The analysis revealed that rhythm, clarity, and strategic use of techniques such as paraphrasing and generalization were decisive in the strongest performances. Note-taking and content fidelity emerged as critical skills for consecutive interpretation, while stress management and diction made a significant difference in simultaneous interpretation.
Some participants demonstrated consistency and technical command, though they faced challenges in terminological precision. Others showed strong discourse analysis but struggled with pronunciation or time control. There were also cases where fluency and retention were affected by nervousness, underscoring the importance of training not only technique but also emotional resilience.

La firme lucha de las autoridades de Medellín contra la explotación sexual de niños, niñas y adolescentes, así como contra la trata de personas, fue determinante para que la capital antioqueña fuera elegida como la primera sede en Colombia del Encuentro Internacional Operación Liberterra II. Este evento reúne a autoridades de control, organismos internacionales, representantes del gobierno de Estados Unidos y la Fuerza Pública colombiana.
Durante la reunión, se abordaron temas clave como la instalación de una sede de INTERPOL en Medellín, que ha fortalecido la seguridad local y la capacidad de respuesta frente a delitos cometidos por extranjeros. Según el alcalde Federico Gutiérrez, esta presencia ha sido decisiva:
“Vamos con toda. Solo entre 2024 y 2025 se han generado de parte de Interpol con Policía, con Fiscalía, estamos hablando de más de 39 capturas. En cinco años se habían generado 65, o sea, se están dando golpes importantes”, afirmó el mandatario.

The event was sponsored by the Mayor’s Office of Medellín, the District of Science, Technology and Innovation, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the Government of Canada. The agenda featured case studies, expert panels on irregular migration and transnational criminal networks, and regional strategies for enhanced cooperation.
Speakers included representatives from INTERPOL, UNODC, Colombia’s Attorney General’s Office, the National Police, Migration Colombia, and delegations from Mexico, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Canada, Spain, Panama, Costa Rica, and Turks & Caicos.
A key objective of Liberterra II was to identify transnational criminal networks operating in Antioquia and develop joint mechanisms for dismantling them. The event also showcased progress on Project Turquesa, a collaborative initiative between INTERPOL and UNODC aimed at combating human trafficking and migrant smuggling across the region.

“We’re going all in. Between 2024 and 2025, INTERPOL, in coordination with the police and the Attorney General’s Office, has carried out over 39 arrests. In the previous five years, there were 65. We’re making major breakthroughs,” he stated.
